About a short thirty-minute drive away from the Puerto Princesa airport is the Nan hai fa yu Temple. It is located very near the Honda Bay’s dock. The temple is for the faithful who wish to venerate Guandyin in this region in the Philippines. This holy site was inaugurated on October 2010 coinciding with Guandyin’s Remembrance Day. Over the years, monks from China have arrived in the country to run this holy temple. Aside from the famous Guanyin’s shrine and the chapel, the property also has dormitories, dining hall and kitchen. Chanting services are performed in the temple, as well. This is a pilgrimage site for many Buddhist devotees.
Holy shrines and images of the Mahayana Buddhist faith are positioned near big bodies of water in the belief that their deities will watch over voyagers and travelers. This image of Guandyin is believed to be facing its other image in China both watching over seafarers as they sojourn the vast waters in safety. |
