'Ang hindi marunong magmahal sa sariling wika ay daig pa ang hayop at malansang isda ; he who does not pay homage to his own language is like an animal and a smelly fish.' August is the month Jose Rizal reminds us Filipinos to honor our mother tongue. Celebration of the national language was formerly done in one week but now it's a month long commemoration. Manuel Luis Quezon de Molina, born on August 19, 1878 is also honored this month for being a statesman, a soldier and, most importantly, the Father of the Philippine National Language. Schools all over the country teach and promote patriotic literature and vernacular through oratorical contests, debates and prose and poetry writing. Filipino nationalism is taught in young minds through fun parades, pageantry and traditional games. |
